Community Meetings

The Oregon Encyclopedia will include entries on all parts of the state, with special attention to smaller communities. It will include information on Oregon history, art, architecture, literature, anthropology, ethnology, folklore, and more. In 2008, editors and staff will involve as many local communities as possible by gathering information through Community Meetings held throughout the state. The meetings will provide general information on the project and encourage open discussions of the community's significant events, people, places, and institutions. By tapping into local sources of historical and cultural knowledge, the meetings will give Oregonians the opportunity to contribute in significant ways to The Oregon Encyclopedia.

The meetings will be attended by members of the encyclopedia's distinguished editorial board, editors-in-chief, and staff. Some meetings will provide writing workshops where prospective authors can work on topics and entries, with literary experts to guide the process.

Through Community Meetings, The Oregon Encyclopedia will be a true reflection of who Oregonians are today.
